The person appointed to this position will have overall policy and operational responsibility for forestry and for major schemes under the 2023-2027 CAP Strategic Plan. The 2023-2030 Forest Strategy and, within it, the 2023-2027 National Forestry Programme with its annual national budget of approximately €100m, seeks to ensure the development of the forestry sector and the expansion of the national forest estate in a manner and to a scale that will deliver lasting benefits for the climate, biodiversity, water quality, timber production, economic development and quality of life. The person appointed will lead a multi-disciplinary team of more than 500 people located throughout the country.
