Killarney Hotels Collection consists of The Europe Hotel & Resort, The Dunloe Hotel & Gardens, and Ard na Sidhe Country House under the ownership of the Liebherr Group. Our three Hotels have three unique garden landscapes over a total of approximately 300 acres, containing a walled garden, an arboretum, a fern glade, rockery beds, formal planting, woodland, manicured lawns, and herb gardens. Our Gardens team also maintains indoor plants in all properties and a green wall at The Europe Hotel & Resort. We are continuously redeveloping areas within our gardens.
The successful candidate will be managing a team of up to 6 craft gardeners and general operatives and reporting directly to the Managing Director.
To manage the day-to-day, year-round maintenance of the gardens and surrounding areas
To manage the continuing development of the gardens working closely with the Managing Director
To maintain records for garden, machinery, and health and safety policies
To practice sustainable gardening methods
A commitment to wildlife-friendly and sustainable garden practices is essential
Overseeing the maintenance of indoor plants at all properties and a Green Wall
Ensuring the maintenance of tidy workshops, tool stores, and gardener’s canteens
Scheduling work tasks for Gardening teams based at each property
A recognised horticultural qualification and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
Previous people management experience is essential for this role – the successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of up to 6 employees
Trustworthy - the successful candidate will be given responsibility over access keys to restricted areas and equipment
Ability to cultivate meaningful connections with the current team and suppliers/contractors working with Killarney Hotels Collection. Also, the ability to develop new connections with contractors and suppliers
Proven track record of working with and overseeing contractors on different projects on the hotel properties
An accredited chainsaw training course would be ideal, candidates without certificates will be considered if they can demonstrate appropriate knowledge, risk assessments, etc.
A basic spraying course is required, candidates will have good knowledge of working with chemicals/fertilizers for lawns and plants and be aware of the risk procedures
A general knowledge of soil types due to different areas that require different maintenance and fertiliser rates etc.
The ideal candidate will be certified and comfortable in operating and maintaining compact tractors, ride-on lawnmowers, and Gators
A valid Class B driving license is essential
Excellent tree and plant knowledge, and gardening skills are essential
Experienced with indoor plants is essential
Experience in purchasing, ordering, and maintaining stock levels - chemicals, equipment, machinery, etc
You must be physically fit, hard-working, and have the desire to achieve high standards at all times
Good communication skills are required for interacting with both colleagues and hotel guests, attention to detail, a keen eye for design, and a flexible approach to non-gardening duties on occasion
Experienced in Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, etc
Good proficiency in the English language, both verbal and written, is essential for this role
