As an exclusive wedding venue, our client is looking for a passionate hands-on working Head Gardener. With excellent communication and managerial skills who will fit in with the existing team. The Head Gardener will be instrumental in liaising with the owners and carrying projects through to a very high standard. The beautiful established grounds have extensive lawns, herbaceous borders, woodland and a vegetable garden with polytunnels.

You have QQI Level 6 Horticultural qualification or equivalent with a minimum of 3 - 5 + years of practical horticultural experience.
You are a creative and passionate leader.
You have excellent communication skills.
You have exceptional attention to detail.
You have excellent plant and tree knowledge.
You are experienced in the operation of machinery and garden equipment.
You have good knowledge of working with chemicals/fertilisers for paths and plants as well as good organic practices.
You are experienced in organic vegetable and pleached apple and pear production.
You are experienced in cut flower production.
You have the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
You have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
You are passionate with a great work ethic.
Responsibilities
To manage and motivate the existing staff.
To manage the day-to-day year-round maintenance of the garden.
To liaise regularly with the Head Chef with regard to the production and supply of vegetables, fruit and herbs for the restaurant.
To grow and supply cut flowers to the in-house florist
To liaise with the current maintenance team.
To manage the continuing development of the garden by working closely with the owners.
To maintain records for the garden, machinery and health & safety.
To ensure correct PPE use and safe operating procedures are followed.
To carry out regular machinery maintenance.
To manage the garden budget.
To practise sustainable and organic gardening methods.
To manage woodland.
Light Weekend cover on a rota basis.
Essential Requirements
Chainsaw license (advantage)
Relevant pesticide qualification PA6A essential
Full Clean Driver's Licence.
Good communication skills are required for interacting with both the owners, staff and guests, with a keen eye for detail, and a flexible can-do approach to non-gardening duties on occasion as part of the greater team.
