Head Gardener

Job Description

As the Head Gardener you will be involved in the establishment and maintenance of the garden. This is a varied hands-on role working on a diverse range of exciting projects and We are looking for a motivated individual who can work independently with a focus on the timely delivery of projects.

The successful candidate will be supported by a qualified garden designer together with the property owner. This interesting opportunity would suit an enthusiastic, self-motivated, outgoing individual, with good communication skills, and who is happy to work both with the team and alone as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Lawn mowing, planting, strimming, hedge cutting,
  • Fencing
  • Track maintenance
  • Woodland maintenance (chainsaw use)
  • General maintenance of gardens, kitchen garden, grounds around the buildings and parkland.

Candidate Requirements:

  • At least 3 to 4 years' experience as a Head gardener or similar role in the areas of horticulture and soft and hard landscaping.
  • Good plant knowledge.
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • A good understanding of safe working practices, experience with garden machinery including hedge cutters, ride-on and walk-behind mowers and tractors with attachments like flails and toppers.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and can-do attitude,
  • Good communication skills,
  • Full clean driving licence essential, with category BE a bonus.
  • Horticultural Qualification an advantage
  • Additional skills such as equipment maintenance and general “handyman” abilities would be welcomed but not essential.
  • Experience with a full-size tractor with a loader, JCB / excavator and ATV would be advantageous.
  • Certificates [manual handling, safe pass, chainsaw and spraying] are required, but training can be provided
