The Role
The Garden Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and delivering all community garden activities outlined in the phased development plan for City Farm and Community Gardens, Ballymun.
The post holder will report to the Chair of the Board of Management and work closely with the Garden Management Committee.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the relocation of the Muck and Magic community garden from its current location at Coultry to Balbutcher Lane in line with the agreed moving plan.
- Design and manage the introduction of a range of community food production programmes within the City Farm Ballymun in consultation with the Board.
- Support the development and delivery of programmes, educational activities and projects for City Farm and Community Gardens Ballymun.
- Support the development of relevant community gardening activities.
- Plan and coordinate community garden events and locally based activities.
- Supervise and provide guidance and support for assigned staff and volunteers.
- Ensure all health and safety requirements and standards are adhered to in the delivery of programmes and activities.
- Maintain equipment related to the programme and ensure all equipment is safe for use.
- Keep an up-to-date inventory of all garden equipment.
Conditions
This contract is initially part-time, 20 hours a week for an initial 24-week period with the intent to extend subject to funding. Availability to work weekdays and weekends is required.
Essential Requirements
- A recognised qualification in horticulture – Minimum of Level 6 QQI or equivalent.
- Proven experience working with adults and young people from diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to interact professionally, courteously, and confidentially with others and represent the organisation effectively.
In addition, the following skills would be an advantage
- Experience in community gardening, horticulture, community engagement, education, and outreach across different age groups and abilities.
