Job Description

Reports To: Manager

We currently have a vacancy for a Horticulture Quality Co-Ordinator whose responsibility it will be to manage all aspects of the Quality systems to ensure Bord Bia standards are met and accreditation is achieved seamlessly.    

Role and Responsibilities include

  • Be fully responsible for the Quality function at the site, taking ownership of existing Quality systems in place and evolving them as required to meet standards 
  • Responsible for tree and crop health, walking the orchard regularly to observe and act upon changes as necessary. Generate regular reports on tree health
  • Responsible for planning the cyclical spraying of trees, application of fertilisers, lime and compost and recording of same
  • Responsible for weed control, spraying and recording of same
  • Develop, implement and manage all food safety and quality management systems at the site
  • Review all existing methods of record keeping and update as per Bord Bia standards (eg spray records, pruning, pest control, tree planting, weed control, environmental, annual yield)
  • Build relationships with key advisors / contractors to ensure continuity of tree health 
  • Reviewing chemical stocks and purchasing of same
  • Review and assess compliance of standards through internal audits and assessments. Act upon non-compliance by putting in place corrective actions and re-training team members as required
  • Compile all required records for consumables, pest controls, environmental and other regulatory requirements
  • Ownership of the site investigation process, ensure that the site is always ‘inspection ready’
  • Drive and implement continuous process and quality systems improvements
  • Build relationships with key personnel at the production plant in Donegal
  • Communicate effectively with visitors, suppliers, internal colleagues and external contractors as required by the business
  • Train and develop other team members, helping them to increase their knowledge
  • Follow financial control policies by issuing a purchase order for all consumables. 
  • Follow all health and safety guidelines
  • Keep up to date in your area of expertise and advancements in orchard processes.
  • Downtime to be used to assist colleagues in the day-to-day tasks on the orchard, a hands-on approach is essential

Qualifications and skills Requirements

  • A Level 8 qualification in Horticulture is essential
  • Minimum of 3 Years experience working at Team Lead/Supervisor Level within a similar role
  • Ideal candidate will be from a crop farming or tillage background
  • Self-driven and committed to the long term success of the orchards
  • Familiar with BRC, HACCP and Bord Bia or similar standards
  • Be capable of working and communicating with all levels of Management and Operational personnel
  • Have a can-do attitude with a problem-solving approach to all issues
  • Be capable of working a flexible schedule through the various stages of growing and harvesting
  • Full clean driving license
